SJC Director of Aviation Recognized Among 2025 Silicon Valley Power 100

Mookie Patel named a fresh face of Silicon Valley’s leadership

San José, Calif. San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) proudly announces that its Director of Aviation, Mookie Patel, has been named among the prestigious Silicon Valley Power 100 for 2025. This annual list, compiled by the Silicon Valley Business Journal (SVBJ), recognizes Silicon Valley’s most influential leaders and changemakers. Patel’s inclusion highlights the pivotal role SJC plays in serving the City of San José and its surrounding communities.

The Power 100, a guide to the region's top influencers, is determined by SVBJ’s editorial team through an independent review process. Honorees are selected based on their achievements, leadership and impact on their organizations and the broader community.

The Power 100 is not a ranking but rather a recognition of individuals whose influence extends beyond their organizations. This year’s list focuses on individuals who drive innovation, build connections and shape the future of Silicon Valley. Patel joins the ranks of influential leaders, including the CEOs of companies like Google, Microsoft, Nvidia and eBay.

Reflecting on the honor, Mookie Patel expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m inspired by the creativity and innovation at the Airport, City Hall and throughout Silicon Valley. It’s humbling to be included alongside such remarkable leaders.” Patel credited his success to the dedication of his team at SJC, calling them “creative and forward-thinking employees who inspire me daily to be better.”

Since joining SJC in March 2024, Patel has spearheaded several initiatives, including Spirit Airlines’ expansion in San José; the bid to launch new, nonstop service between SJC and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport; Frontier Airlines’ return to SJC after a three-years hiatus and the official opening of its 22,600 square foot, state-of-the-art new Facilities Administrative and Fleet Maintenance Buildings; among others.

With over three decades of experience in aviation, Patel has earned an industry-wide reputation as a dynamic leader. Before his tenure at SJC, Patel was Business and Finance Chief Officer at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, where he increased non-airline revenues and facilitating investments. He previously served as Chief Aviation Administration Officer and Assistant Director of Aviation at San Antonio International Airport, where he focused on enhancing community connections and contributing to the city’s economic growth. He also spent nearly a decade at Alaska Airlines and has held various airport and consulting roles. Patel holds a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from Oklahoma State University and possesses a private pilot license. In 2022, he received the Dedicated Service Award from the American Association of Airport Executives. Patel is a member of the Commercial Management Steering Committee of Airports Council International-North America, a member of the Board of Directors of Joint Venture Silicon Valley and member of the Board of Directors of San José Chamber of Commerce.

Patel’s leadership continues to shape the future of SJC, reinforcing its status as a cornerstone of Silicon Valley’s growth and connectivity. His inclusion in the Power 100 underscores his impact not only at the airport but also across the broader community.
