San José, Calif. – San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) is happy to welcome passengers traveling to and from the three new nonstop destinations introduced by Spirit Airlines, just one year after the airline commenced operations in San José.

Starting this month, Spirit has expanded its SJC service with new flights to Baltimore-Washington (BWI), Los Angeles (LAX) and Portland, Oregon (PDX). The new routes are accompanied by increased flight frequencies to Las Vegas (LAS) and San Diego (SAN).

“The addition of these new nonstop flights by Spirit Airlines is a significant milestone for San José Mineta International Airport and our community. It not only enhances our connectivity to key destinations but also underscores our commitment to providing travelers with more options and convenience. We are thrilled to celebrate this expansion and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our residents and visitors alike," said San José City Manager Jennifer Maguire.

To celebrate, area travelers are invited to participate in the Airport’s first “Spiritaneous” Sweepstakes named for the spontaneous trip the winning participant will take immediately after the event. The prize comprises a roundtrip for two (2) to Los Angeles (LAX) on Thursday, June 13, and includes a four (4) day SJC parking pass. Participants can enter for a chance to win by showing up on Thursday, June 13, from 1:30-2 p.m. near the Spirit ticket counters located in Terminal A. The winner will be selected and announced by a Spirit representative just after 2 p.m. and must be present to win. Visit SJC Spiritaneous for official rules and details.

"Being a passenger on a first flight is always memorable and celebrating is an important part of this experience," said SJC Director of Aviation Mookie Patel. "Our team is committed to providing an exceptional customer experience at SJC for every traveler, whether on business or budget, ensuring our passengers will always remember their journey."

Along with the “Spiritaneous” giveaway, SJC and Spirit commemorated the inaugural flights on June 5 with festive events in the terminals throughout the day. Passengers traveling through SJC enjoyed decorations that reflect the spirit of the new destinations, accompanied by SJC and Spirit Airlines branded gifts.

“We look forward to celebrating the launch of our new low-fare flights to Baltimore (BWI), Los Angeles (LAX), and Portland (PDX) with San José’s most spontaneous travelers and can’t wait to welcome the lucky winner onboard our flight to LAX,” said John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines. “SJC travelers have trusted us to give them the best value to great destinations, supporting our growth at San José Mineta International Airport.”
