Spring Break Travel is Blooming at San José Mineta International Airport

San José, Calif. – With Spring Break travel already in full bloom, San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) is ready to welcome the seasonal surge of passengers traveling through the Airport with an array of festive decorations and events.

The peak travel period for this Spring Break is set to begin March 29, extending over 17 days through April 14. However, travelers flying now through mid-April should plan ahead and allow extra time at the Airport due to increased holiday traffic.

“The Airport is always prepared for travelers. Our focus is that everyone enjoys a seamless experience as they fly through SJC,” said SJC Director of Aviation Mookie Patel. “During peak travel periods, it’s especially important to plan ahead and give yourself a bit of extra time to navigate the Airport, enjoy the festive decorations for our 75th Anniversary, and even take a picture and enter our sweepstakes.”

To enhance passengers’ experience in 2024 and to mark an important milestone in the Airport’s history, an array of chicken-themed decorations are set up at SJC. These decorations celebrate the first passengers to arrive at SJC – a group of 2,550 baby chickens. Travelers are invited to photograph them for a chance to win anniversary prizes from SJC.

Passengers traveling on March 29 around noon will also have the opportunity to see Alex the Great, the first therapy bunny enrolled is SJC Happy Tails, posing for a very special photo shoot.

Check-In Online and Arrive Early
SJC recommends online check-in up to 24 hours before departure. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) advises travelers to arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours prior to international flights. On certain days and at certain hours, passengers may experience longer lines than usual – especially during busy periods such as Spring Break.

Plan Ahead for Parking
Travelers can reserve and pay for parking online, as well as book a waterless car wash in the Airport's Hourly, Daily and Economy parking lots. Given the high demand during peak periods, parking reservations are strongly recommended. For parking inquiries, SJC's parking services team is available at (408) 441-5570.

Pack Smart
In preparation for security screening, travelers should familiarize themselves with TSA’s travel tips.

Speed Up Security with TSA Precheck and/or CLEAR
For faster security clearance, SJC travelers can enroll in TSA PreCheck and/or CLEAR, available at both SJC Terminals and other airports nationwide.

Accessible Services and TSA Cares
Passengers in need of extra assistance are encouraged to check the list of Accessible Services and the TSA Cares program for a tailored travel experience.

Use Cellphone Waiting Areas or Park for Airport Pickups
For airport pickups, SJC advises using Cellphone Waiting Areas or parking in the nearest hourly lot, as waiting at terminal curbs is strictly prohibited to maintain traffic flow.
