San José Mineta International Airport is Prepared for a Busy Labor Day Weekend, Offers Tips for Travelers

SJC expects a strong finish to Summer 2023

SAN JOSE, CALIF. Officials at San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) expect tomorrow, September 1, to be the busiest travel day for the Labor Day holiday travel period this year.

The Airport projects 21,725 outbound travelers compared to 21,690 outbound travelers on the Friday before Labor Day last year in 2022, and 15,848 on the same day in 2021. Next Friday, September 8, is expected to be the second busiest day with over 20,000 outbound travelers projected.

This year’s Labor Day travel period begins today, August 31, and spans the week, ending on Friday, September 8.

“SJC continues to see strong and stable passenger traffic as we conclude the summer travel months,” said John Aitken, SJC Director of Aviation. “Our focus on providing exemplary customer experience is a source of pride for our staff and is what the flying public has come to expect and love about flying through San José. As travelers celebrate the end of summer, our teams and facilities are ready to support with safe, smooth, and memorable trips this holiday weekend.”

The Airport suggests the following tips for travelers over the holiday:

  • Plan Ahead for On-Airport Parking. SJC has online parking reservations available at https://parking.flysanjose.com/SanJoseBooking/.
  • Arrive Early - TSA recommends arriving to the terminal two hours early for domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Check airline websites for flight status updates.
  • Before Heading to the Airport:
    • Check in online in advance and print a boarding pass. TSA and SJC airlines accept mobile boarding passes, but having a printed pass can be helpful if a mobile device experiences power or connectivity issues;
    • Even with a boarding pass, reconfirm airline flight status before leaving for the airport. Flight schedules may change at the departure or arrival city due to inclement weather or other factors.
    • Review the TSA’s tips for packing at TSA.gov.

Travelers at SJC can now also enjoy donuts and coffee from the new Dunkin’ in Terminal A and Peet’s Coffee in Terminal B, as well as decadent Mac + Cheese creations at the new San Jose Mac + Cheese Kitchen, opened recently in Terminal B near Gate 18.
