Terminal B is a modern and efficient airport terminal that opened on June
30, 2010. It replaces the original SJC Terminal C constructed in 1965. The
new terminal was constructed in two phases as described below.
Terminal B Concourse
Construction of the Terminal B Concourse began in 2004 as the first major
element of the New Airport. Located between Terminal A and Terminal B,
the new concourse has ten aircraft gates, comfortable and roomy waiting
lounges, and new shops and restaurants. Designed by Gensler with construction
management by Gilbane Building Co., the concourse features an airy “paseo”
interior with open spaces and natural lighting to take advantage of San
José’s sunny climate. The first six gates in the new concourse
were activated for interim service by Southwest Airlines in July 2009.
The remainder of the concourse opened with the completion of Terminal
B in June 2010. In September 2010, the Terminal B Concourse Project was
recognized with LEED Silver certification by the US Green Building Council
in recognition of the airport’s significant commitment to environmentally
sustainable design and construction.
Terminal B
The second phase of work included new ticket counters/passenger check-in,
a large and efficient security checkpoint, baggage claim, and comfortable
passenger waiting areas. The additional areas are integrated with the
Terminal B Concourse for a total of 12 aircraft gates. Passenger conveniences
include free WiFi and shops and restaurants both pre- and post-security.
Terminal B also has a new, state-of-the-art, automated inline baggage
screening system for greater efficiency for airlines, passengers, and
TSA. Designed by Fentress Architects and constructed by Hensel Phelps
Construction Company, Terminal B was completed and opened in June 2010.
The Terminal B Project anticipates LEED Silver certification upon completion
of US Green Building Council review.

to be performed with environmental sustainability and energy efficiency
